National Park Local Plan – Progress Update

National Park Local Plan – Progress Update As you will be aware, the National Park Authority is preparing a brand new Local Plan for the National Park that will set out detailed policies and site-specific proposals for development. It will be used to guide day-to-day planning decisions and will have a life span of five years.

Between February and August 2007, the National Park Authority held a series of Local Plan Open Days in communities throughout the National Park area. The purpose of these open days was to inform communities of the process involved to develop the new Local Plan and to seek initial community views on planning and development. In total, 912 people attended the 20 open days and a wealth of information was gathered.

The information gathered from each of the open days has now been analysed and presented as summaries of ‘What You Said’. Copies of individual Open Days and an overall National Park summary can be obtained by downloading them off our website (www.lochlomond-trossachs.org). Alternatively, you can request copies by telephoning Lesa Hartland at the National Park Headquarters on 01389 722607.

Information gained from all the Open Days and the Community Futures process is being fed into a ‘Main Issues Report’ which the National Park Authority is currently drafting. Other strands of work are also providing the basis of this report including national planning policy, European legislation and technical research on a range of topics. The Main Issues Report will be published for consultation early in 2008. This will in turn be used to inform the drafting of the Local Plan which will be available for consultation later in 2008.

If you have any questions about the National Park Local Plan please contact the Planning Policy Team on 01389 722600 or email localplan@lochlomond-trossachs.org.

Beachwatch 2007 comes to Ardentinny

Beachwatch 2007 comes to Ardentinny National Park Rangers are looking for volunteers to help with a beach clean at Shepherds Point, Ardentinny on Sunday 16 September from 1 to 4pm. The event is part of Beachwatch 2007, a national campaign organised by The Marine Conservation Society (MCS), a UK charity dedicated to the protection of the marine environment and its wildlife.

Speaking about the event, National Park Ranger Jim Downie said, “Marine litter is a problem on a global scale. It impacts on wildlife, spoils our beautiful coastlines and costs millions of pounds in clean up costs. This is your chance to get involved with the biggest litter clean-up and survey in the UK. All the litter collected will be recorded and sent back to the Marine Conservation Society to help them tackle the sources of litter and campaign to reduce the most common items ending up on our beaches.”

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Countryside Ranger Jim Downie or David Tollan on 01369 705300 or 07734 173947. Booking is required so that equipment can be organised. Another beach clean event will take place on Sunday 23 September at Strachur.
