Beach Vandalism

Ardentinny residents will be aware of the continuing problem of litter and vandalism in the Sandy Beach picnic area. This appears to be caused by both day visitors and overnight campers to the area. We are aware that many of the Forestry picnic tables have been badly damaged by "disposable" barbecues and allegedly trees have been cut down for firewood. Over the past couple of weeks we have received several complaints from concerned residents (see...[more ]

Rescued ex-battery hens
LIVE from Ardentinny

It was a case of handle with care last weekend when Ardentinny's newest residents moved into the village. The six 11-month old hens were part of a batch of 628 ex-battery birds saved from slaughter by the Scottish branch of the Battery Hen Welfare Trust (www.bhwt.org.uk). Breaking News?

On Wednesday 5th, it appears that Ardentinny's community lifeline was ignominiously cut down by a gust of March wind. The bearer of news, views, plans and reports, plus the odd advertisement, i.e., the village noticeboard, lay on its face in the car park. Community Council Secretary, Dougie Menzies, said that they will approach the Council to ask if they are willing to share the cost of its replacement. We'll keep you informed of progress. In the meantime, send us your news and upcoming events, and we'll tell the world! [tell us]

Raining Dogs...

The recent heavy rains have contributed to an ongoing problem at the village car park. Access to the forest pathway and the public toilets is almost impossible without a suitable pair of wellies! This seems to be a recurring problem. Therefore, we will contact Argyll Council this week to see how it may be resolved. Watch this space!

Fingall's Well

Fingall's Well in Ardentinny, which allegedly commemorates a Cuddy of that name that carried the erstwhile Laird, Archibald Douglas of Glenfinart during the Crimean War, has been showing it's age recently. Erosion was taking its toll on the soft sandstone and it had even been repaired at one time in the dim and distant past, due to damage. However, at the back end of last year, it seems it was badly damaged by either a contractor who failed to see it while trimming the roadside hedge or cutting the roadside grass verges... [more]
