Fingall's Well
Fingall's Well in Ardentinny, which allegedly commemorates a Cuddy of that name that carried the erstwhile Laird, Archibald Douglas of Glenfinart during the Crimean War, has been showing it's age recently.
Erosion was taking its toll on the soft sandstone and it had even been repaired at one time in the dim and distant past, due to damage.
However, at the back end of last year, it seems it was badly damaged by either a contractor who failed to see it while trimming the roadside hedge or cutting the roadside grass verges.

After the damage was reported to the Forestry Commission, they made inquiries, but were unable to ascertain or prove who the culprit really was. They, to their credit, then decided that they would, in conjunction with Ardentinny Community Council, replace the stone.
Stokes Memorial of Dunoon were approached and agreed to supply one to the required standard. They also kindly offered to do the engraving gratis as a gift to the Ardentinny Community, which is very much appreciated.
Thanks are also due to The Police Welfare Fund which gave a grant to the A.C.C. to assist in the replacement. Work has already started and the Stone and Well have been cleaned prior to its installation.
