The historic Ardentinny Hotel re-opens this weekend under a new guise.

Renamed The Ardentinny. The popular hostelry, dating back to the seventeen hundreds, has been closed for a number of years.

In May 2014 the roof of the building was badly damaged by fire caused by a lightning strike which delayed its renovation.

The Ardentinny, which opens today (Friday 30 June) at 5pm, will provide a welcome new venue at the centre of the village. Telephone number is 01369 810126.

Ardentinny hydro scheme comes on stream

The Chair of Ardentinny Renewables Trust (ART), Dougie Menzies, has confirmed that the Hydro Scheme at Baron Turner is now up and running with both turbines operating and connection to the grid finalised. He reported that the company Hydrover says the initial costs should be paid off in five years and the scheme’s lifespan is expected to be 25 years.

ART is now registered with the Scottish Charity Regulator OSCR (registered no. SCO47215) with its main purpose being  ‘to advance the protection of the environment through the promotion and sustainable production of energy from renewable sources….. and to support rural regeneration in the Ardentinny Community Council geographical area through the management  and distribution of funds accruing from the production of renewable energy for community benefit.

Easter Fun Day 2017

Despite gloomy conditions, Ardentinny Community Trust’s first Easter Fun Day at Glenfinart Walled Garden was a great success with lots to do including an Easter egg hunt, egg painting, Easter bonnet parade, egg and spoon race, flower pot ping-pong, coconut shy and as usual a superb selection of home baking.

Not to be left out on the fun, the mums and dads had their own hilarious egg and spoon races (see videos below).

The Easter Bonnet parade was judged by a local journalist with Kaitlin Woodside’s creation being declared the winner.

Sculptor Andy McClintock was demonstrating his unique art and also had on display exotic sculptures created by school children.

Thanks to everyone who came along on the day and helped make the event such a success and especially our wonderful bakers!  The Trust would also like to thank all the local companies who contributed to the Easter hamper raffle prize.

Ardentinny’s bygone sports day

We’re indebted to Jim Robinson who has been rummaging through his photo album and has come up with these gems from probably the 1980’s.

They are possibly of the Ardentinny School sports day held in the ‘football field’ behind the Swedish Houses. If you have any recollection of when this took place or who is in the photographs, please comment below or let us know at bettingmafia.com.

Kids’ fun at Garden Opening

At what has become something of a tradition, Glenfinart Walled Garden held its spring opening in conjunction with Forestry Commission Scotland’s Easter Monday Eggstravaganza.

There was free entry to the garden and lots of fun activities for the children, e.g., mask painting; colour a bug glider, egg decoration; coconut shy; and plant a seed in the kids’ garden. As ever, the tea tent, with Ardentinny’s famous home baking, did a fine trade and a total of £437.92 was raised on the day, courtesy of generous donations of time, goodies and cash.

Glenfinart Walled Garden is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays 12.00 – 16.00 hrs and on the first Friday of the month 11.00 – 14.00 hrs. Visitors are also welcome any day the gate is open or, by appointment. All enquiries, requests to visit the Garden and offers of help can be made to Jean on 01369  810075 or Anna on 01369 810238.
