Dunoon group discusses Council cuts

2015-12-12_10-36-14On Friday evening a public meeting was held in Dunoon to discuss the proposed Argyll and Bute Council cuts which will affect everyone in Cowal. Councillors Walsh, McQueen and Breslin were invited to attend. However only Councillor Breslin was present.

The meeting was organised by the Democratic Socialist Federation, a political grouping (not a political party) founded on the principle of ’empowering people to participate in their local area with other like minded people, and to have an effective say in a real democracy’.

More information on the local group is available on the People versus Argyll and Bute Council Administration facebook page.

The event which was livestreamed by DemocracyTV.scot, can be viewed below.

Gardener’s Blether – October 2015

2015-11-14_18-26-50October issue of Gardener’s Blether, the newsletter of Glenfinart Walled Garden (PDF).

Harvest Fair welcomes the visitors

P1010881-1What has now become an annual event, last weekend’s Glenfinart Walled Garden’s Harvest Fair celebrated another year of garden produce and progress.

The garden’s resident horticulturalist/gardener Franziska Schmidt and her amazing groups of volunteers excelled themselves in what has been a difficult year, weather-wise, for all local gardens.

Delicious apple juice was pressed from the orchard’s apples and soup from the vegetable garden provided warm and welcome sustenance.

The ubiquitous tea tent show-cased local baking skills and a variety of stalls provided additional interest.

There was also plenty for the kids from story-telling and jousting with the Green Knights to decorating their pots with Potter Bill.

Live music kept everyone upbeat and a very successful day culminated in raising approximately £1500.

Popup ‘SolidarityStudio’ promotes #RefugeesWelcome

IMG_0345As part of Amnesty International’s Refugees Welcome campaign, ardentinny.org created a popup ‘#SolidarityStudio’ at Saturday’s Glenfinart Walled Garden Harvest Fair.

In support of the #RefugeesWelcome message, a steady stream of visitors were photographed with a background of refugee images kindly provided by photographers @BartVanEijden and @Xandra_Photo. Each was presented with a complimentary souvenir print. The images were also shared to social media via Twitter and Facebook.

Visitors also generously donated to Amnesty International (£41.65) and Scottish charity Glasgow Asylum Destitution Action Network (GLADAN) (£41.81).
